US-headquartered lender Citi has appointed Deepak Dangayach as its managing director and co-head of debt capital markets ( DCM ) for Japan, Asia North and Australia ( JANA ) and Asia South, and Vikram Chavali as its managing director and head of global asset managers ( GAM ) for JANA and Asia South

Dangayach, who will be based in Hong Kong, brings almost 20 years of experience in capital markets, having previously held senior roles at Deutsche Bank and UBS. He was most recently the head of sponsor financing for Asia-Pacific at Deutsche Bank, and prior to that, led the Asia-Pacific-leveraged and debt capital markets team at UBS.

He is widely respected for his expertise in originating, structuring and executing complex debt financing transactions across multiple sectors and geographies.

“He joins with a strong track record of client success, and his expertise will be a great asset,” says Richard Zogheb, Citi’s managing director and head of global DCM.

Adrian Khoo, who currently heads the bonds DCM teams for the Asia clusters, will expand his remit to be co-head of DCM for JANA and Asia South, along with Dangayach.

“With Adrian and Deepak as co-heads, we are combining our loans and bonds businesses under a unified DCM umbrella, which will be aligned geographically,” Zogheb adds. “The new structure is designed to allow for more integrated coverage of our clients and to provide for a more holistic financing discussion.”

Chavali, who will join Citi later in the year and will be based out of Hong Kong, will play a key role in supporting the bank’s strategic sponsor clients, and his established relationships will be invaluable as the bank looks to grow its sponsor business.

He brings 20 years of experience in investment banking coverage and capital markets, with a proven track record of deal origination and execution, leadership, client engagement and strategic growth.

Chavali joins Citi from Goldman Sachs, where he was head of Asia ex-Japan sponsors mergers and acquistions. Prior to that, he has also served as co-COO for Asia ex–Japan, technology, media and telecoms, and other senior roles within Goldman Sachs.
